Burke is an urban, co-educational, independent, college preparatory school that provides a challenging curriculum in a warm and supportive environment. We welcome students of varied backgrounds and diverse gifts, each of whom we believe capable of important intellectual growth and academic achievement. Burke currently serves over 315 students in grades 6 - 12. The average class size is 15, and the faculty-student ratio is 1:7. Edmund Burke School consciously brings together students who are different from one another in many ways, actively engages them in their own education, has high expectations for them, gives them power and responsibility, and supports and advances their growth as skilled and independent thinkers who step forward to make positive contributions to the world in which they live. At Burke, we are certain that education's mission rests in how we teach as well as in what we teach. Some of the most significant learning results from the vital human connection between teachers and students as caring individuals with complimentary goals.
