The Lowell Whiteman School, located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, serves boarding and day students in Grades 9 through 12. Balancing a challenging traditional liberal arts curriculum with opportunities beyond the classroom, the school fosters students’ personal and academic growth. With an average class size of 8 students, personal relationships between students and faculty are the foundation of the college preparatory education. Of the 88 person student body, 60% participate in a 4-week foreign travel curriculum at one of 5 unique destinations. The 2008 destinations were South Africa, Sikkim in India, Argentina, Mongolia, and Senegal. 40% of the student body skis or rides competitively in partnership with the award-winning Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Lowell Whiteman has graduated 16 Olympians. All students participate in an experiential outdoor program with offerings in kayaking, rock and ice climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, canoeing, camping, and skiing and riding.
